Acapulco Gold is a landrace from the Acapulco region of Mexico, and its parentage was never documented; by every account no one knows who first selected it. It was one of the few branded names on the illicit market for years. What is sold today is a reproduction, most visibly the Barneys Farm seed line, worked from surviving genetics rather than the original clone. Treat the name as a style and a lineage claim, and buy on the producer.

Acapulco Gold is a hard grow indoors, which is much of why the original became scarce. It takes a warm climate, finishes in about ten to eleven weeks inside or mid-to-late October outdoors, and yields around 18 ounces per square meter indoors and more outside. Acapulco Gold was a household name before most people knew strain names existed.
It is a Mexican landrace sativa, gold-tinged and coffee-scented, that ran the black market for decades before the legal shelf existed. Nobody recorded who first grew it or what went into it. What sells under the name today is a modern seed reproduction, and the older the reference point, the blurrier it gets.
What to Expect
Acapulco Gold is a bright morning lift with a soft landing. Reviewers describe it leading on happy and energetic, with a strong uplifted and euphoric note and a calming body high underneath that keeps it from feeling wired. It runs a couple of hours. It suits getting things done, being social, a daytime that wants momentum.
The reports also mention mild paranoia and anxiety for some, and dry mouth and dry eyes are the most common complaints by a wide margin in the smaller vote-based data we have. It is a poor pick for the evening or for anyone who wants a heavy, sedating experience.
Flavor and Aroma
Acapulco Gold is earthy and sweet with a distinct coffee note, plus pine and a light citrus edge. It is a warm, roasted smell rather than a fruity one, and the coffee carries into the flavor on the exhale.
