Bubba Kush does not smell like most of the shelf: coffee, cocoa and dark earth, closer to a hash bar than a candy store. Its origin is genuinely lost. The Los Angeles breeder's account is an OG Kush plant crossed with an unnamed Northern Lights phenotype brought back from New Orleans by a grower known as Bubba, and that mother plant no longer exists.

With the source gone, the interesting question is what the name has reliably carried forward. The answer, across more than two decades, has been very consistent.

Bubba Kush is a body strain, and a dependable one. Across roughly 6,100 Leafly reviews, relaxed leads at 62 percent, then sleepy and happy at 49, with euphoria and hunger behind. Reviewers describe a slow-building, muscle-loosening heaviness, often called a full-body melt, with a calm rather than racy head. It heads toward sleep without rushing there.

It suits the end of a physical day, the run-up to bed, an evening with nothing that needs doing. It is a poor fit for daytime, for focus or for anyone wanting a heady or energetic experience. Dry mouth is common, at about a third of reviews, with dry eyes behind it and dizziness or a paranoid edge for a smaller share. Keep the dose modest if the plan is to stay awake.

Bubba Kush is coffee and cocoa over a heavy, hashy earthiness, with a spicy, faintly diesel edge and a hint of pine. Some describe roasted nuts. It is a rich, low, savory smell rather than a bright one. The smoke carries the coffee and a lingering sweetness, and the exhale is earthy.

Bubba Kush's measured panel puts Caryophyllene on top, with Myrcene, Limonene, Linalool and Humulene fairly close behind and a real amount of Bisabolol. It is an even, rounded profile with no single spike, which fits the warm, earthy, slightly spicy smell.

Caryophyllene is the peppery, clove-like note and also the one terpene known to act on the body's CB2 receptors, which is at least consistent with how physical this strain feels, though the effect is never one compound acting alone. The coffee-and-cocoa impression itself sits mostly outside the standard panel, in roasted and earthy compounds a terpene reading does not measure.

Bubba Kush THC runs from about 14 to 24 percent in our records, with a lab-measured sample near 17. That is low to moderate by current standards, and one older source claiming 27 percent is well outside everything else we have. CBD is a trace.

The modest number is worth holding onto, because the body effect is much bigger than it. This is a case where a mid-teens batch will still put you firmly on the couch, so dose for the effect rather than the percentage.
