Cannatonic is generally given as MK Ultra crossed with a G13 Haze male, from Resin Seeds in Spain. The high-CBD trait was already present in the parent stock and got selected and stabilized here. Because that trait segregates in the offspring, Cannatonic seeds throw a range of ratios, which is why its descendants are propagated from clones rather than seed.

Resin Seeds released it in the late 2000s as an attempt at a one-to-one THC-to-CBD ratio, and its results at Spannabis 2008 helped kick off commercial CBD breeding. It is not one fixed plant: phenotypes range from balanced to strongly CBD-dominant.
