Origin
White Widow's origin is unresolved. Several breeders have claimed it, and the account that comes up most, a Brazilian sativa crossed with a South Indian indica landrace, is attributed to Green House Seeds and the grower Shantibaba around 1994 but has never been confirmed. It won a High Times Cannabis Cup in 1995 and dozens of awards since. Its list of descendants is long, from Alaskan Ice to White Rhino to a shelf of White crosses. With a pedigree this uncertain, the award record and the producer tell you more than the family tree does.

White Widow is rated easy, one of the reasons it spread so far. It is highly resistant to pests and disease, tall at around 2.5 meters, and finishes in 65 to 75 days or by late October outdoors, with reported indoor yield around 18 ounces per square meter. White Widow is one of the most familiar names in cannabis and one of the least documented. It appeared in the mid-1990s Amsterdam coffeeshop scene, several growers have claimed to have bred it first, and the usual account, a Brazilian sativa crossed with a South Indian indica landrace, is a best guess rather than a record. The name is the one clear thing: the buds are so coated in white trichomes they look dipped in sugar.
It won an early Cannabis Cup in 1995 and has been a coffeeshop and grow-room staple ever since, which is much of why the murky pedigree never mattered.
What to Expect
White Widow is an even, mildly uplifting hybrid. Across roughly 4,900 Leafly reviews, happy leads at 57 percent, euphoric at 53 and uplifted at 49, with relaxed lower at 42, and sources agree it eases the body without pushing toward sleep. It is a morning or social strain more than an evening one.
The reports describe something dependable rather than dramatic, which is most of why it endured. It suits a daytime session, a creative afternoon, time with other people. The catch is that it runs heady for a balanced hybrid, so anyone sensitive to a racy sativa may find it a bit much, and the smoke expands hard in the lungs and can bring on a cough. Paranoia shows up for about one reviewer in twelve, dry mouth for a third.
Flavor and Aroma
White Widow is pungent and earthy with a piney, spicy edge and a faint sweet-fruit note some describe as peach. The smoke is smoother and sweeter than the sharp aroma suggests, leaving a slightly sugary aftertaste. Broken apart it turns woodier and more herbal.
Terpenes Explained
White Widow's measured panel is led by Caryophyllene, well past half a percent, with Limonene and Humulene behind and a notable amount of Bisabolol. Myrcene is low, which is a little unusual. Terpinolene and Pinene barely register.
