The usual account is Haze crossed with a pairing of Northern Lights #5 and Shiva Skunk, from Sensi Seeds. The breeder has kept the precise formula private, so the ratios are not documented, but the three-way description is consistent across sources and can be stated with attribution. The name and part of the genetics run through a long line of later strains, from Jack the Ripper to a whole shelf of Jack crosses, which is a monument of a different kind.

Jack Herer the strain exists so Jack Herer the man would not be forgotten. Sensi Seeds built it in the Netherlands in the 1990s, a tribute to the activist and author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, who spent his life insisting that cannabis and hemp deserved to be taken seriously.
He died in 2010. The strain kept going.
A cultivar made as a monument has an obvious way to fail. It coasts on the name. This one never did.
What to Expect
The thing people mention about Jack Herer, more than the lift itself, is that it stays conversational. Across roughly 9,900 Leafly reviews the head reads as attentive and present rather than racy, with happy out front at 54 percent, uplifted at 51 and euphoric, energetic and creative clustered in the forties. For a strain that leans this far toward sativa, that evenness is unusual, and it is a lot of the appeal.
It earns its standing on the experience, not the name. It fits a working day, a creative project, a long walk, a social afternoon, anything wanting momentum without an edge. It is a weak choice for the evening, and for anyone who finds a lively sativa tends to get ahead of them, since the top end can bring mild anxiety or a jittery head in about one review in sixteen. Expect dry mouth and dry eyes near 25 and 15 percent. Not much else. Inhaled, the onset is quick; an edible runs slower and longer and needs its own plan.
Flavor and Aroma
Jack Herer leads with pine and black pepper, a bright lemon-orange note over the top, and a woody floor. Grinding brings the spice forward. More than one description reaches for "fruit salad," citrus plus something rounder and sweeter, held in check by the pepper so it never turns candied. It finishes earthy and piney.
