Sativa

Origin

Laughing Buddha is a cross of a Jamaican sativa and a Thai sativa, from Barney's Farm, though our records carry no formal lineage entry beyond the two countries. Both are landrace-derived, which is where the clear head, the giggle and the tropical note come from. Its 2003 Cup win is a large part of why the name has lasted.

The difficulty to grow Laughing Buddha is known for being difficult. For growers cultivating indoors, expect a 16 to 22oz/ m2 yield with in about 10–12 wk. Outdoors, harvest around mid-to Late October.

Cultivation Notes

Laughing Buddha yields well, with reported figures of 16 to 22 ounces per square meter indoors and around 22 per plant outdoors, finishing mid-to-late October. Its landrace sativa background points to a tall plant with a longer flowering stretch. The Cup pedigree and the yield are the practical draws. Grower and breeder figures.

About

Laughing Buddha is a Cup-winning sativa built almost entirely from landraces.

Barney's Farm crossed a Jamaican sativa with a Thai one, and the result took a 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup. The name likely nods to the Thai side, and the heritage is most of what you are choosing.

What to Expect

Laughing Buddha is a giggly, energetic head strain. Leafly's breakdown leads with happy at 65 percent, then uplifted at 61, energetic at 50, giggly at 49 and euphoric at 49, from a large number of reviews, describing an upbeat, talkative lift good for company or creative work. Despite the night-time tag in our data, sources treat it as a daytime strain.

Dry mouth and dry eyes are mild, near 18 and 11 percent, but a headache note is more common here than usual, flagged heavily in a separate reviewer set. Hydrate and keep the dose moderate if headaches are a concern.

Flavor and Aroma

Laughing Buddha is sweet pineapple and lemon citrus over an earthy, spicy base with a herbal edge. The tropical fruit is the recognizable part. The flavor carries the sweet pineapple and citrus with an earthy, faintly spicy finish.

Terpenes Explained

Laughing Buddha has no measured terpene panel in our data, only Humulene, Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Ocimene as recurring names without amounts. The tropical-pineapple note in particular comes from minor compounds a standard panel does not capture.

Landrace-heavy strains often carry aromatic combinations modern panels were not built around, so a lab sheet may not fully explain the smell. Judge a batch by nose.

Cannabinoids and Potency

Laughing Buddha THC is reported around 14 to 20 percent, with the lab-measured sample near 15, so this is a moderate strain by current standards. CBD is a trace. The effect is livelier than the number suggests.

Do not skip this one for a mid-teens THC figure; the energetic, giggly character is the point.
