Purple Tangie

Sativa

Origin

Purple Tangie is a cross of Tangie and an unidentified Purple strain, with only the Tangie side resolved in our records and the breeders anonymous. The Purple parent brings the color and, apparently, enough dankness to bury Tangie's citrus. With the Purple parent a blank, two Purple Tangie batches can be quite different plants.

About

Purple Tangie has Tangie in its name and none of Tangie's loud orange smell.

It crosses Tangie with an unnamed Purple strain, from breeders who kept their name to themselves, and it won a concentrate award at a 2016 High Times Cup. The purple comes from the mystery parent; the tangerine mostly did not survive the cross.

What to Expect

Two expectations get overturned here. Tangie promises a bright citrus punch; a Purple name usually signals a sedating strain. Purple Tangie is neither: Leafly's breakdown leads with uplifted at 60 percent and happy at 57, with euphoric, energetic and focused behind, from a solid number of reviews, describing a clean, focused daytime lift.

The downsides are unusually light, dry mouth and dry eyes both near 10 to 12 percent, with a headache note rare. It is one of the gentler strong strains in our data.

Flavor and Aroma

Purple Tangie is earthy and dank with a musky base, a sour citrus edge and a berry note rather than the sharp tangerine Tangie is known for. The color is the striking part, a deep purple from anthocyanin pigments that cool nights bring out in the Purple parent's genetics. That color is cosmetic; it does not change the smell or the effect.

Terpenes Explained

Purple Tangie carries no terpene panel in our data, only Humulene, Myrcene and Caryophyllene as names. Tangie is normally a strongly citrus, Limonene-forward strain; none of that shows up in the names on file here.

That gap fits the muted, dank aroma the descriptors point to. Smell the jar and do not expect a Tangie-level citrus.

Cannabinoids and Potency

Purple Tangie THC is reported around 22 percent, a firmly strong level, with our wider records adding noise below that. CBD is a trace. The concentrate award suggests it holds up well in extraction.

Expect a strong strain around 22 percent and buy for the color and the clean high, not a citrus flavor.
