Genetics & Origin

Origin

SAGE is an Afghani landrace crossed with an original Haze, though one source lists Big Sur Holy as the second parent. The name reflects the goal, an equilibrium between Afghani body and Haze head. Its 2001 Cup placing is part of why the name has lasted, and it is still a benchmark for a genuinely balanced high.

About

SAGE smells of the kitchen herb it is named for, which is also an acronym.

The letters stand for Sativa Afghani Genetic Equilibrium, and the strain crosses an Afghani landrace with an original Haze. It took second overall at the 2001 High Times Cannabis Cup. Genuinely sage-scented, and a strong cerebral hitter despite the equilibrium in the name.

The nose is literal.

What to Expect

SAGE is a heady strain that leans up. Leafly's reviewers lead with happy at 59 percent of a solid sample, euphoric at 54 and uplifted at 52, with relaxed behind at 46 and creative at 36. The Afghani side adds weight, but the head comes first and hard.

At a high dose the cerebral push can tip anxious, and a small paranoid note is on record. Dry mouth runs to 34 percent and dry eyes to 22. Not a gentle strain despite the balanced name.

Flavor and Aroma

SAGE really does smell of sage, sharp and herbal, over a pungent, woody, earthy base. The flavor adds citrus and pine with a spicy, almost diesel edge. It is one of the few strains that lives up to a herb name.

Terpenes Explained

SAGE has no terpene test in our data, with Camphene, Terpinolene, Caryophyllene and Limonene named and nothing measured.

That true sage note is unusual and sits in lighter herbal compounds a standard panel does not report. A SAGE jar that smells clearly of the herb, not just pungent, is the genuine one.

Cannabinoids and Potency

SAGE THC is reported from about 19 to 28 percent, a strong range, with no clean lab sample in our data. CBD is around one percent. Even at the low end it hits hard.

SAGE's cerebral punch is stronger than the number suggests, so a small first dose is the right way to meet it.
